Glow Boosting Superfoods

Summer is my favorite food season! Yes, I have a favorite food season, and as someone who hates spending too much time cooking anything, I have discovered that summer foods are the best for staying out of the kitchen.

Bright berries, fresh fruit smoothies, exotic fruits, summer salads, and easy grilled veggies rule my summer eating habits. These foods not only keep my kitchen cool (and my electric bill down), but as an added perk, they keep my skin looking bright and refreshed as well.

Berries

Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries… Oh, My.  I can’t get enough! I eat them for breakfast, lunch and dessert.  I eat berries all summer, every summer, like I will never see another berry again for the rest of my life.  The pint of raspberries in my work fridge doesn’t even need a name label anymore, because they have become synonymous with me.

We have all heard that antioxidants are good for your skin, and these sweet nature treats pack quite the punch of them.

Strawberries are excellent in fighting free radicals, which are known causes of skin damage AND cancer, along with numerous other health benefits.  You will find this superfood in my cart for as long as they are ripe to go.

The antioxidants found in raspberries, another free radical fighter, are said to have anti-inflammatory properties, as well as detoxifying properties which help remove toxins from the body- and in turn, removing toxins from the skin!

Blueberries are said to be one of the highest antioxidant rich foods, which makes them King Berry in my book! They are said to reduce DNA damage from outside free radicals, and help slow down the aging progress- they are pretty delicious too.

Summer Salads

There is nothing better to me than a light, fresh salad when it’s too hot to even think about what to cook for dinner.  Not only is it an easy meal to put together, but again, the veggies and proteins in these salads pack a serious skin nourishing punch.

I like to make sure I always have some bright vegetables, like red bell peppers and avocado- both contain plenty of vitamin c essential for collagen production. Throw in some spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers… the list of delicious summer veggies you can throw in a salad are endless.

Adding proteins is essential as well! Tossing a grilled salmon steak or grilled chicken in with all the veggies makes sure that you providing your skin and hair that extra glow inducing boost.

(This easy to make quinoa salad is one of my go-to favorites, and is great to take to any summer bbq you need a quick dish for!)

Grilled Veggies

Nothing says summer eating like a good bbq.  Grilling outside with family and friends is my favorite summer pastimes, and alongside those burgers and brats I always make sure to throw on some veggie skewers to make I am getting all the antioxidant benefits as mentioned above. Some of my favorite, easy to grill veggies include: asparagus, green beans, brussel sprouts, zucchini, bell peppers, and cauliflower- just to name a few.
